@The IES aims to contribute to understanding safety and risk associated with the use of nuclear energy through studies on the behavior radioactive nuclides in the environment as well as human body, and also through examinations on the health effects of long-term low-dose-rate irradiation. We also participate in supporting the activities for public understanding of radiation effects and the training of human resources in the nuclear industries and their related organizations.

The IES conducts the following projects to achieve above objectives.
    • Research on environmental safety including impact of radioactive materials
    • Investigate the health effects of low-dose-rate irradiation in model animals
    • Provide to the public the technology/information on environmental safety including impact of radioactive materials
    • Support the training of human resources to facilitate the understanding and use of nuclear energy
    • Other activities necessary to achieve the objectives of the IES
